Project Manager

Location: Chicago, IL or Grand Rapids, MI

2021 is a whole new year for us at Blue Flame Thinking and we’re looking for an experienced(5–7 years+), effective, solutions-oriented PM to join our team and help us reimagine and implement some world-class processes and project management!

At their heart, our ideal candidate should be someone that has agency experience in project managing a range of capabilities and deliverables across teams for client-partners. We’re looking for candidates with great interpersonal skills and a teamwork attitude focused on problem-solving and effective delivery of complicated digital solutions and high volumes of creative production work.

Project Manager Responsibilities

  • Owns the successful day-to-day execution of multiple projects by delivering them on-time and on-budget
  • Works collaboratively with the agency’s other project managers to determine how best to manage agency resources (content, design, dev) across a range of large and small-scale projects/deliverables
  • In tandem with account manager, works to successfully onboard new agency clients and/or projects
  • Proactively keeps project work flowing through each phase, and provides solutions to removing potential roadblocks
  • Communicates with clients to ensure projects are moving forward
  • Closely monitors and manages project budgets
  • Works with account team to manage project change orders
  • Creates estimate schedules and timelines
  • Participates in daily standup meetings and project status meetings
  • Communicates regularly with the account team on the status of jobs in progress
  • Collaborates with agency leadership to identify and suggest solutions on how to improve workflow processes and agency efficiencies
  • Captures and distributes meeting recaps and assigns next steps/to-dos
  • Maintains professional internal and external relationships that meet the company’s core values


  • 5–7 Years of experience working in an advertising or marketing agency
  • Degree from an accredited college or university preferred, but not required

  • Deep familiarity and experience with project management software (we currently use Teamwork Projects)
  • Demonstrated understanding of agency culture, process, and team structure
  • Demonstrated understanding of client relationships and challenges(empathy)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Fanatical about process improvement and efficiency – some may say you’re obsessed
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Must be able to multitask by managing and prioritizing multiple projects
  • Decisive and persistent – able to see a project through to completion
  • Superior time management skills
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and proactive
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

COVID-19 Work Expectations/Considerations

Most of Blue Flame Thinking’s team has been working from home since the beginning of the pandemic and may continue to operate remotely for some time. While we feel confident working remotely and providing an excellent level of service to our clients, we are a team-based collaborative environment. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work at least part-time in our Grand Rapids,  office if they live in Michigan, or be willing to travel occasionally to the office if they do not.
