In discovery, we found that Granger Construction’s team struggled to update its site. We knew a website redesign with improved UX/UI would help.
Granger Construction leads innovative construction, including projects like the first IPD healthcare project in Michigan in 2012 and completing one of the first mass timber buildings in the Midwest in 2021.
Its old website did not properly showcase the breadth of Granger’s capabilities, and users struggled to find what they were looking for due to poor content hierarchy. The team was using an outdated system that was difficult to update.
Granger asked BFT for a website redesign that would address usability issues, showcase their project photos, highlight their capabilities, and establish paths for multiple user groups. It needed to be a tool to serve all of Granger Construction’s audiences.
Identifying Gaps in Previous Website
Our first steps in our discovery process are to identify what gaps the client sees from their old site, and offer solutions on how we can fix problems in the new website. We brainstorm and collaborate very closely in these sessions. Together, we identify pain points, list wants and needs, and ask about the vision and the story for the site.
Improving User Experience: Fixing the Flow
The previous version of Granger’s website presented significant challenges for users, leading to a disorienting experience that made navigation hard. Users often felt lost and struggled to find the information they needed.
To fix that, we undertook a comprehensive redesign to enhance usability. We focused on detailed organization through tagging and filtering of featured projects and news updates.
We also developed multiple careers pages tailored to various audience segments. This helped ensure clear communication with all stakeholders. Subcontractors also have a specified section that allows them to easily step through the bid process with Granger.
Optimizing the Website for SEO: Utilizing BFT’s SEO & Copywriting Services
Armed with updated keywords and SEO best practices, both the BFTeam and the Granger team utilized key terms. Our focus is on integrating keywords into headlines, schemas, and metadata to align with key search engine triggers.

When responding to RFPs and design-build contracts, Granger wanted to put its best foot forward. In order to fully showcase their plethora of completed projects in various industries, they needed a photo-forward layout that helped them shine.
